2010 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS


2010 MDTA SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

The Missouri Dump Truckers Association has awarded four $1,000 scholarships for the 2009-2010 collegiate school year. The four recipients are Jamie Hatlan, daughter of John and Cassandra Hatlan of Fenton, Missouri; Brandon Ludwig, son of Monica Ludwig of Monroe City, Missouri; Jason Marcum, son of Jim Marcum of Sedalia, Missouri; and Ray Vannoy , son of James and Mitzi Vannoy of Emden, Missouri.


Jamie Hatlan graduated from Rockwood Summit High School, in Fenton, Missouri. She plans to attend the University of Missouri Science and Technology in Rolla, where she will major in Civil Engineering.


Brandon Ludwig attends the Missouri University of Science and Technology formerly the University of Missouri-Rolla majoring in mechanical engineering. Brandon was awarded the scholarship the past two years. Brandon graduated from Monroe City R-1 High School in Monroe City, Missouri.


Jason Marcum graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Sedalia, Missouri. Jason attends DeVry University in Kansas City, Missouri majoring in computer information systems. He was also one of the scholarship winners for the 2008-2009 school year.



Ray Vannoy graduated from North Shelby High School in Shelbyville, Missouri. He plans to attend the College of the Ozarks and major in Conservation and Wildlife Management.

While in high school Jamie’s extracurricular activities include:


Attending Captain’s Council and MSHAA Sportsmanship Summit Leadership Conference and


Varsity Softball (4 years/ Senior Year Captain).


Honors and awards received:

Scholar Athlete (4 years);


Academic Achievement (Freshman and Sophomore);


Academic Excellence (Junior and Senior); and


Renaissance (4 years).


Community and other activities:

Sports Clean Up Day (Junior and Senior Years) and


Volunteered to help rebuild Pearlington, Mississippi during her Spring Break.


Jamie is currently employed in the retail industry and works 15 hours a week. She also helps her parents out around the house cleaning and helping with dinner.

BRANDON LUDWIG

Brandon Ludwig

During Brandon’s two years at the University of Missouri Science and Technology, he has maintained above a 3.0 GPA.


While in high school, Brandon’s extracurricular activities include:


National Honor Society (11th & 12th);


Football (9th, 10th, 11th & 12th);


FFA (9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th);


Quiz Bowl (11th, 12th); and


Student Council (Class Treasurer - 11th, 12th).



Honors and awards received include:

Football-Best offensive lineman;


Homecoming King;


FFA-Green Hand Award;


Scholarship Award; and


Contest Participant Physics Robotics Contest-1st Place.


Brandon is a member of Our Savior Kids at the Our Savior Lutheran Church. During the summer of 2007, Brandon attended the National Youth Gathering-Missouri Synod.


Brandon occasionally helps his dad at Maher Brothers as well as helping with house chores and babysitting his nieces. Brandon was employed at General Mills in Hannibal in the summer of 2007. He plans to have a summer internship every summer until his graduation to help with college expenses.


Brandon wants to receive his baccalaureate in mechanical engineering and eventually receive a master's and doctorate degree. He hopes to one day move to North Carolina and get into a racing organization as an engineer.

JASON MARCUM

Jason Marcum

While in high school, Jason’s extracurricular activities include:


National Honor Society (3 years);


Varsity Boys Basketball Team Manager (2 years);


Varsity Boys Video Recorder (2 years); and


Member of the National Society of High School Scholars (1 year).


Honors and awards received:

“A” Honor Roll (4 years) and


Top Student: Algebra II, Biology I, Computer Science, Physical Science, Algebra I, and Literature I.


Jason helps his father clean and maintain their home. Jason maintains the home computers.


With his college education and some innovation, Jason wants to create computer programs beneficial to trucking companies making management much easier.

RAY VANNOY

While in high school, Ray’s extracurricular activities include:


Marching and Prep Band (2004-2009);


FFA Member (2005-2009);


Chapter FFA Treasurer (2007-2008);


Chapter FFA Secretary (2008-2009);


National Honor Society (2007-2009);


Envirothon Team (2006-2008);


Tri-Rivers Conference Band (2005-2009); and


Campus Bowl (2005-2009).

Scholarship Award (2006-2008);


Citizenship Award (2006-2008);


Bradley Good Citizen Essay Contest (2006-2008);


4th Place Campus Bowl (2008);


1st Place Northeast Regional Envirothon (2007);


Missouri State FFA Leadership Metal (2007);


2nd Place Individual State FFA Agriculture Mechanics (2008); and


I rating district saxophone solo (2007).


Community and other service activities:


NEMO Old Threshers Cane Stripping (2007,2008);


Bethal Sheep Festival clean up and set up (2005-2008);


Highway 15 trash pick-up(2005-2009); and


Volunteered to restore a steam locomotive for NEMO Old Threshers Association.


Ray spends his summers helping his grandfather on his farm and mowing his elderly neighbor’s lawn.


After college graduation, Ray wants to pursue a career with the Department of Natural Resources.
